Adams Bench has made a name for itself on the strength of its Cabernet and this is an impressive addition to the lineup, full of rich black fruit flavors and firm, chewy tannins.

Angel Vine Zinfandel Alder Ridge Vineyard Columbia Valley 2012 $24
Angel Vine focuses largely on Zinfandel and Primitivo and crafts some of the most compelling versions of these varieties the state has to offer. Raspberry and cranberry aromas lead to tart, broad fruit flavors that show a fine sense of balance.

Ashan Chardonnay Kestrel Vineyard Yakima Valley 2014 $40
This is the third vintage of Chris Gorman’s Chardonnay focused project and the wines continue to impress. Butterscotch and graphite aromas lead to a creamy palate backed by lemony acidity.

Cadence Coda Red Wine Red Mountain 2014 $28
This Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot dominant Bordeaux-style blend is consistently one of the best bang for the buck wines in the state. It’s chock full of well balanced red and black fruit flavors surrounded by a lot of structure.

Cadence Camerata Red Wine Cara Mia Vineyard Red Mountain 2013 $55
Dark fruit and black licorice aromas lead to dazzling dark fruit flavors that show an impeccable sense of balance.

Cayuse Vineyards Cailloux Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley 2013 $NA
The entire 2013 lineup at Cayuse impresses, with the Cailloux Syrah among a number of standouts. Perfumed aromas of olive, sea breeze, smoked meat and funk are followed by dense yet silky fruit and savory flavors, capped off by a long finish.

Gorman Winery Old Scratch Chardonnay Columbia Valley 2015 $20
This bottle brings a whole lot of wine for the money. Aromas of candy corn and peach lead to a rich, full bodied palate that delivers.

Horsepower The Tribe Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley 2013 $120
The third vintage of this wine is the most impressive to date, with brooding aromas of smoke, ham, flowers, and peat. The palate is concentrated with fruit and savory flavors, displaying depth and intensity.

La Rata Grenache Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley 2013 $NA
This wine from Cayuse Vineyards assistant vigneron Elizabeth Bourcier offers aromas of flowers, smoked salt, and crushed strawberry followed by a palate full of elegant savory flavors.

Leonetti Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley 2013 $95
This latest release from Leonetti is one for the cellar, with intricate aromas of herb, coffee, spice and red and black fruit. On the palate, the flavors are tightly wound, backed by bright acidity and firm tannins that need some time to soften.

No Girls Tempranillo Walla Walla Valley 2013 $NA
Syrah and Grenache clearly excel in The Rocks area but Tempranillo is not to be overlooked. Reserved aromas of tobacco, flowers, spice, and funk lead to a plush palate that remains light on its feet.

Secret Squirrel Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2012 $25
A side project from the folks at Corliss, this wine offers terrific value for the money. Aromas of barrel spice, herb, and black cherry are followed by rich yet still restrained dark fruit flavors that linger.

Spring Valley Vineyard Estate Grown Uriah Red Wine Walla Walla Valley 2013 $50
This Merlot and Cabernet Franc dominant blend brings aromas of herbs, flowers and cherries followed by a ripe but still well-balanced palate.

Tamarack Cellars Taptiel Vineyard Reserve Red Mountain 2012 $50
Aromas of herb, cocoa and black cherry lead to tart, generous cherry flavors. The acid is bright and the tannins provide some heft.

Tenet The Pundit Syrah Columbia Valley 2014 $25
This is a shockingly good wine for the price – one not to be missed. It’s bursting with plum, currant, herb and spice aromas and flavors, bringing intensity and density – one of the best value wines on the shelf this year.

And finally, a value wine.

Chateau Ste Michelle Pinot Gris Columbia Valley 2015 $12
This is a directly appealing offering of this variety, with aromas of apple and melon that are followed by full feeling fruit flavors that linger.
