I am pleased to announce that, as of October 1st, my tasting responsibilities for Wine Enthusiast will expand to include reviewing wines for all of Washington as well as the Oregon sides of the Walla Walla Valley and Columbia Valley.

This will obviously significantly impact what is posted in this space. My plan is as follows:

Existing submissions: All Washington wines already submitted to Washington Wine Report including wines sent in up to the end of September will be reviewed in this space. My goal is to post these reviews as quickly as possible to clear out the existing backlog as I transition to reviewing all Washington wines for Wine Enthusiast.

Future submissions: All Washington wines submitted from October 1st and beyond will be reviewed in Wine Enthusiast. Wines submitted from Oregon or other areas will continue to be reviewed here.

Future plans for this space: My hope is to continue to write about Northwest wineries and wines here in a similar manner to how I have in the past. I use the word ‘hope’ as obviously my ability to maintain this site this year as I have in years past has been affected by writing for other outlets.

Reviews: For Washington, any review information posted here – once I have cleared the existing backlog – will be either impressionistic notes on wines (that is, not final review text and no scores attached) or wine reviews with scores that have already been published in Wine Enthusiast. That is to say, all formal reviews for Washington wines will be in Wine Enthusiast going forward, once I have posted the existing backlog. For Oregon, I will continue to review wines here as before. Read an updated listing regarding submissions here.

This is obviously a big change and is one I am excited about but it does mark a transition for Washington Wine Report. I want to thank everyone here for joining me on this journey over the last seven years. I hope you will continue to do so. I also want to thank the folks at Wine Enthusiast for the opportunity, none more so than my friend and colleague Paul Gregutt, who will continue to review wines from Oregon for Wine Enthusiast. I am honored to follow in his footsteps and look forward to carrying the Washington wine banner at the magazine.
