BARO Wine, located in Lyle, Washington in the Columbia River Gorge, reports that its winery and cellar have been destroyed by the Burdoin fire. The news came in a social media post late Monday afternoon, July 21st.
BARO Wine wrote on its Instagram page:
As a family & business we have so much to mourn & so much to be FULLY GRATEFUL for = safety of lives, immense gratitude for first responders, neighbors stepping in as heroes, & our house being saved!
But MUCH has been lost.
neighbor’s homes…..lands……and BARO’s winery & cellar.
We know nothing of what tomorrow holds, but we do know who holds tomorrow in His hands.
Our prayers & love continue to go out to all those affected by the Burdoin Fire, all of Lyle, and everyone fighting for our community. We are forever grateful to the firefighters & all first responders!
BARO Wines had its first releases in the spring of 2025 according to its Instagram page. The winery’s tasting room opened June 14th, just over a month before the facility was destroyed by fire. BARO focuses on low intervention wines from sustainably farmed vineyards. The winery was founded by owner and operator Eric Blossman and winemaker Sam Hutchens.
According to reports, the Burdoin fire started Friday, June 18th at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the Bingen/Lyle, Washington area. As of mid-morning Monday, the fire burned over 10,000 acres and was still uncontained. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
The town of Lyle continues to be under a Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation. Syncline winery, which is located in Lyle, reported Sunday evening on Instagram that its winery and nearby COR Cellars were currently safe. There is no word at present about other wineries in the area.
For the people at BARO Wine, their friends, family, and the broader Northwest wine community, the destruction of BARO Wine and its cellar are an unimaginable loss. Wineries, and, in fact, each bottle of wine represent hopes and dreams and the culmination of years of exceptionally hard work in the vineyard and in the winery. To see all of that destroyed in an instant by fire is beyond comprehension.
Our hearts go out to the people at BARO and to everyone affected by the on-going Burdoin fire.
