“I tell people that if I don’t have the best job around, it’s definitely towards the top,” says Guy Barnes.

Last month Ste. Michelle Wine Estates (SMWE) announced that Barnes was promoted to head winemaker at Columbia Crest. Barnes is now in charge of overseeing Washington’s third largest wine brand.

“It is this amazing blend of the artistic side but then also the science side,” Barnes says of why he loves winemaking. “Every year truly there is something different, whether it comes from Mother Nature or it comes from something different we’re doing at the company.”
