Current tasting room to be converted to Stoller Wine Bar | Newberg

Chehalem is opening a tasting room in Sherwood, Oregon. The tasting room will be located at Chehalem Estate Vineyard, which is within the Laurelwood District of the Chehalem Mountains appellation in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

“The space is going to be beautiful,” says Michelle Kaufmann, vice president of communications at Stoller Wine Group, which owns Chehalem. “It’s a stunning property, where the tasting room is staring straight out onto Parrett Mountain and then Mount Hood to the east.”

The tasting room is situated on a 200+ acre property, with 122 acres planted to grape vines. The building is a spacious 6,150-square-feet. It includes two tasting areas, one with a fireplace and the other with a tasting bar. There is a loft lounge, a private conference room, and an outdoor patio and lawn. The tasting room has capacity for 160 people indoors, with additional outdoor capacity.

At the tasting room, Chehalem will showcase a variety of wines from its portfolio. “We want to pour our single vineyard wines, our reserve wines, and occasionally some library wines as well as some other things,” Kaufmann says.

Bucking recent trends, the tasting room will not require appointments. “We firmly believe that during the pandemic, we lost spontaneity as a people,” says Kaufmann. “Reservations will be available for people’s convenience, but we want people to be spontaneous, bring their families, bring their children, bring their well-behaved dogs – outside on a leash – and enjoy wine and this beautiful space.”

The Chehalem tasting room will have a full kitchen. Food will be prepared by chef de cuisine Brent Spangler. It will officially open March 28th.

Chehalem’s current tasting room in downtown Newberg, meanwhile, is being converted into Stoller Wine Bar | Newberg.

“It will be akin to the wine bar that we have in Bend,” Kaufmann says. “There will be lots of live music. It will be a place for the community to get together, have a nosh, have a glass.”

Stoller Wine Bar | Newberg is scheduled to open March 1st.
