James Hall, the founding partner and winemaker at Sonoma’s Patz & Hall, announced on Monday that he had purchased the winery back from Ste. Michelle Wine Estates (SMWE). SMWE had purchased the winery in 2016.

“This rare opportunity to reclaim the winery from Ste. Michelle Wine Estates is the culmination of my life’s work over the past 35 years with Patz & Hall,” Hall said in a press release.

The sale of Patz & Hall by SMWE comes as little surprise. The company has publicly stated it is refocusing business efforts on the Pacific Northwest. This has already involved purchasing and selling several wineries over the last two years.
