Waterbrook – founded in 1984 – is located in downtown Walla Walla. The name is based on a translation of Walla Walla – alternately “running water” or “many waters.” Waterbrook’s winemaker is John Freeman. The winery, purchased by the behemoth Precept Brands in late 2006, produces 75,000 cases annually. Waterbrook’s mélange, a red blend – is a consistent value standout.

Black pepper, espresso, and dark spice alongside sweet oak. Black cherry and light coffee grounds on a smooth taste. Hangs on at the finish. Not a whopper but a very solid wine. 87% Cabernet; 7% Merlot; 4% Malbec; 2% Cab Franc. 13.7% alcohol. 4,070 cases produced. Sampled at 63 degrees. Where: Purchased from Safeway for $16. |

Just found yr blog. V. nice! Looking forward to digging in more. Given the state of the economy, would love to see more posts on value wines, or wines like Abbott’s Table (a good deal today, but a better bet for the cellar).
