Winery renamed Owen Roe Estate
David and Angelica O’Reilly, who founded Yakima Valley’s Owen Roe in 1999, have purchased the winery in the Vintage Wine Estates (VWE) asset sale. The purchase includes the winery, the house on the property, two vineyards, inventory, intellectual property, and associated brands. All employees will be retained. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
“We’re pretty elated and really just rolling up our sleeves and getting down to work,” says owner/winemaker David O’Reilly.
The deal closed at 2 p.m. on Friday October 4th. The transaction was included in association with the sale of Laetitia Vineyard & Winery, a California brand.
“What we were advised by the company tasked with selling the [VWE] assets was that they would put greater emphasis on offers that were multiple estates to be as efficient as possible,” O’Reilly says.
For this reason, the O’Reilly’s combined their offer with the Laetitia offer, which involved their good friend Ejnar Knudsen. Knudsen and his group submitted the stalking horse bid for the two wineries that set the floor for bidders. The bankruptcy court subsequently approved the bid. The transaction ultimately closed as two separate deals, one for Laetitia and one for Owen Roe.
Following the purchase, the O’Reillys have renamed the winery Owen Roe Estate. “We decided to enhance what we’re doing and really accent our two estate vineyards,” O’Reilly says. “Some of the best fruit that we work with is from our estate properties.”
