Milk chocolate, toast and raspberry aromas are followed by quite sweet fruit flavors. It’s unabashed in its easy-drinking appeal.

14 Hands 2013 The Reserve Cabernet Franc-Merlot Horse Heaven Hills $30 91 points
Cabernet Franc makes up almost two-thirds of this wine, with the rest Merlot. Aromas of vanilla, cocoa, baking spice, flowers and cherry are followed by plentiful dark-fruit flavors and a tart finish, with the tannins providing a squeeze.

14 Hands 2014 The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Horse Heaven Hills $NA 91 points
This young wine offers aromas of jammy black fruit and spice. The dark chocolate and cherry flavors are pretty and polished, with fine-grained tannins backing them up.

14 Hands 2015 The Reserve Sauvignon Blanc Horse Heaven Hills $22 86 points
Reticent aromas of kiwi and herb are followed by tart, medium bodied citrus flavors. The concentration isn’t as dense as it could be.

14 Hands 2013 The Reserve Merlot Horse Heaven Hills $30 90 points
Aromas of plum, blueberry, vanilla and spice are followed by plush, ample fruit flavors. It brings a lot of appeal, with baking-spice flavors lingering on the finish.

Adams Bench 2013 Red Willow Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Yakima Valley $NA 88 points
Aromas of cough syrup, bittersweet chocolate, anise and dark fruit lead to full-bodied sweet-cherry flavors. Layers of firm, dry tannins provide the frame.

Adams Bench 2013 Stillwater Creek Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley $70 92 points
Bright aromas of blackberry, cassis, pencil lead and black cherry are followed by full-bodied black-fruit flavors backed by a firm lick of chewy tannins. The finish lingers and the mouthfeel heightens the interest. Give the tannins some time to settle in. Best after 2020. Cellar Selection

Adams Bench 2013 The V Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley $54 91 points
The aromas bring brooding notes of black cherry, bittersweet chocolate and wood accents. The palate is power packed and tightly wound with firm but not unyielding tannins. It needs time in the cellar or a long decant.

Airfield Estates 2013 Mustang Red Blend Yakima Valley $25 88 points
Syrah makes up three-quarters of this wine with Grenache (20%) and Syrah accounting for the rest. It’s fragrant with aromas of raspberry, cherry, herb and allspice that lead to plush, downright jammy fruit flavors that still show a deft touch.

Raspberry, oak, wood spice, vanilla and herb aromas are followed by plump, jammy red-fruit flavors that provide appeal.

Airfield Estates 2015 Sauvignon Blanc Yakima Valley $15 85 points
Bright aromas of melon, pear and herb lead to tart dry fruit flavors. The concentration comes off as quite light.

Airfield Estates 2014 Red Blend Yakima Valley $18 90 points
This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (56%), Merlot (28%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Malbec (4%) and Petit Verdot. Aromas of freshly hewn wood, cherry and herb are followed by plentiful black fruits that linger on the finish. The oak plays prominently at times but it works.

Airfield Estates 2015 Rosé Yakima Valley $15 87 points
This wine is 100% Sangiovese and is a pale pink color. Aromas of cherry bubblegum and herb lead to a dry full-feeling palate. The alcohol pokes out a bit at times but it still provides enjoyment.

Airfield Estates 2015 Sweet Riesling Yakima Valley $15 87 points
The aromas of jasmine and stone fruit seem quite subdued for the variety. As promised, the palate boasts plentiful amounts of sugar counterbalanced by stone-fruit flavors.

Alleromb 2013 Vineyard Collection Chardonnay Columbia Valley $48 90 points
The aromas bring notes of cream, padded butter and summer squash. The palate is rich and creamy, made in a full-bodied style that brings plenty of appeal.

Aluvé 2012 Primo Volo Red Blend Walla Walla Valley $48 91 points
This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Malbec (12%) and Merlot. The aromas draw you into the glass, with notes of poblano, herb, spice, vanilla and cherry. The palate displays a mixture of fruit and barrel, with tightly wound tannins and bright acidity heightening the interest.

Aluvé 2014 Lewis Vineyard Chardonnay Walla Walla Valley $36 87 points
The caramel, candy corn and peach aromas are rich and nectarous. The palate meanwhile shows delicacy and restraint. At times the concentration isn’t all there but what is present is interesting.

Aluvé 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley $48 90 points
This inaugural wine is a mix of fruit from Wild Rose and Yellow Bird vineyards, both located in the up-and-coming Upper Mill Creek area of the valley. Aromas of vanilla, clove, baking spice and dark cherry lead a palate that equally mixes fruit and barrel. The tannins need some time to settle in.

Ambassador Vineyard 2015 Boushey Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Yakima Valley $22 88 points
Aromas of herb, citrus and mineral are followed by tart, racy citrus flavors. It provides a lot of appeal.

Ambassador Vineyard 2013 Estate Grown Diplomat Red Blend Red Mountain $40 89 points
This wine is an intriguing blend of three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon, with the rest Syrah (20%) and Grenache. Aromas of café au lait, exotic spice, vanilla, wood notes and black cherries lead to tangy cherry flavors backed by lightly grainy tannins.

Ambassador Vineyard 2013 Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain $38 89 points
Wood spice, cherry, vanilla, coffee and exotic spice aromas are followed by herb and cherry flavors. The palate has a silky feel, accented by bright acidity and lightly chalky tannins.

Ambassador Vineyard 2013 Estate Grown Envoy Red Blend Red Mountain $35 88 points
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah take the lead on this blend. Aromas of wood spice, café au lait, cherry and spice box are followed by tobacco and cherry flavors. There are good things going on but the wood gets a bit out front.

Ambassador Vineyard 2013 Estate Grown Grenache Red Mountain $42 89 points
This wine is dark in color for the variety, with aromas of cherry, raspberry, herb, wood spice and potpourri. The dark-cherry flavors are broad and rich, tapering toward the finish.

Cigar box, café au lait, and dried tobacco aromas are followed by coffee and cherry flavors, with barrel spices lingering on the finish. The wood gets a bit out front but it still delivers enjoyment.

Light aromas of pear, white flowers and melon lead to dry, medium-bodied fruit flavors. It doesn’t bring much complexity but still offers plenty of appeal.  Best Buy

Angel Vine 2012 Stonetree Vineyard Primitivo Columbia Valley $24 90 points
Jammy cranberry, raspberry and maraschino cherry aromas lead to full-bodied very pure fruit flavors that linger on the finish. It pulls no punches but also pulls it off.

Angel Vine 2013 Primitivo Columbia Valley $24 89 points
Lively aromas of brambly red fruit and spice are followed by plump raspberry flavors. It shows a lot of freshness and purity.

Angel Vine 2012 Alder Ridge Vineyard Zinfandel Columbia Valley $24 91 points
Coming from the Horse Heaven Hills region, this wine offers appealing aromas of cranberry, raspberry fruit leather, red currant and spice—all displaying a fine sense of purity. The tart fruit flavors are broad and generous but stay in balance. Editor’s Choice

Angel Vine 2012 Stonetree Vineyard Petite Sirah Columbia Valley $24 91 points
Aromas of tar, flowers, barrel spice and dark fruit lead to palate-staining purple-fruit flavors backed by firm but quite well integrated tannins. It shows a compelling sense of purity.

Angel Vine 2012 Stonetree Vineyard Zinfandel Columbia Valley $24 90 points
Vibrant aromas of cranberry, raspberry and red currant are followed by full-bodied jammy red-fruit flavors. It drinks quite sweet but overall holds the sugar well and the acid provides a counterbalance.

Angel Vine 2012 Coyote Canyon Primitivo Columbia Valley $24 88 points
This Horse Heaven Hills grown wine shows aromas of tobacco, dried flowers, herbs and red and blue fruit. The palate is full bodied, with tart acidity brightening the flavors.

Animale 2013 Petit Verdot Columbia Valley $28 90 points
Brooding aromas of violets, moist soil and purple fruit are followed by a palate with bright, citric acidity. It shows impeccable balance, with the variety’s often burly tannins well tamed. Put it on the dinner table to see it at its best.

Animale 2013 Petite Sirah Yakima Valley $24 88 points
This wine presents aromas of flowers and purple fruit that are almost animalistic in nature. The palate boasts bright acidity and firm but far from inaccessible tannins. It’s the purity, however, that most impresses.

Animale 2013 Reserve Petite Sirah Yakima Valley $26 91 points
The aromas start out quite locked up, with notes of purple fruit and flowers. The palate reveals fresh, quite pure aromas, with well-balanced acid and tannins and a finish that lingers.

Animale 2013 Cabernet Franc Yakima Valley $25 89 points
The aromas of flowers, herb, cedar, game and plum are appealing. The flavors are light and fresh, with snappy tart acidity livening things up.

Ashan 2014 Conner Lee Vineyard Chardonnay Columbia Valley $40 91 points
This wine was barrel fermented and aged in 100% new French oak. Aromas of sweet spices, toast and stone fruit are followed by a full-bodied palate. It shows a lovely sense of texture.

Ashan 2014 Kestrel Vineyard Chardonnay Yakima Valley $40 92 points
Reserved aromas of pencil lead, butterscotch and spice are followed by a full-bodied, creamy feeling palate, with a thread of lemony acidity that runs throughout. It’s a compelling example of the variety, with a finish that won’t quit.

Ashan 2014 Celilo Vineyard Chardonnay Columbia Valley $40 90 points
Barrel fermented and aged in once-used French oak, this wine offers generous aromas of corn on the cob, corn silk, baked apple and spice. The flavors are silky and restrained, showing a lovely sense of balance.

Basel Cellars 2011 Claret Red Blend Columbia Valley $25 90 points
Cabernet Sauvignon (45%) and Cabernet Franc (42%) take the lead on this blend. The aromas suggest notes of dried herb, cherry, vanilla and pencil shavings while the palate offers elegantly styled dark-fruit flavors with toasty accents. It’s a very pretty expression of the vintage.

Basel Cellars 2012 Estate Merriment Red Blend Columbia Valley $48 91 points
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot make up three-quarters of this blend. Subtle aromas of baking spice, vanilla and cherry lead to tart well-proportioned pit-fruit flavors. It shows a fine sense of balance.

Basel Cellars 2011 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley $36 89 points
100% varietal, this wine exhibits aromas of dried herb, cigar box, and cherry. The flavors are tart, light and elegant, harmonizing on the finish.

Basel Cellars 2011 Merlot Columbia Valley $34 88 points
Aromas of vanilla, spice box, toast and jammy red fruit are followed by quite elegant fruit flavors. The tannins seem a bit bunched up.

Basel Cellars 2011 Estate Malbec Columbia Valley $34 87 points
Already a full five-years-old, this cool vintage wine brings aromas of freshly brewed coffee, baking spice, vanilla, green herb and tobacco. The flavors are light and elegant, showing a pretty styling but the concentration doesn’t always seem fully there.

The aromas bring notes of dried and fresh herb, citrus twist, baking spice, wood spice and cherry. The cherry and pencil lead flavors show a sense of poise and polish.

Basel Cellars 2013 Estate Double River Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley $32 90 points
Bright aromas of smoke, green olive, flowers, roasted meat, toast and huckleberry are followed by ripe full-bodied fruit and barrel flavors. A lightly creamy feel heightens the interest.

Basel Cellars 2012 Estate Inspired Red Blend Columbia Valley $46 91 points
This wine is 64% Merlot and 36% Cabernet Franc. High-toned aromas of herb, cherry, cigar box, vanilla and baking spice are followed by coffee and cherry flavors that display a pleasing sense of balance, with espresso notes lingering on the finish.

Brian Carter Cellars 2015 Abracadabra Rosé Columbia Valley $25 88 points
Hot pink in color, this wine offer plentiful aromas of cherry and watermelon. It drinks off dry, with sugary sweet-fruit flavors that provide appeal.

A unique blend of Viognier (50%), Roussanne (41%) and Riesling, this wine offers light notes of peach and pear. The palate is full of stone-fruit flavors backed by vibrant acidity that piques the interest.

Browne Family Vineyards 2014 Heritage Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley $48 90 points
The aromas are reserved, with notes of wood spice at the fore along with chocolate, vanilla and dark fruit. The chocolate-covered-cherry flavors show polish, backed by lightly grainy tannins.

Cadence 2013 Bel Canto Cara Mia Vineyard Red Blend Red Mountain $60 91 points
Cabernet Franc makes up two-thirds of this wine with the rest Merlot. It dazzles with aromas of flowers, red fruit and mineral that are followed by generous amounts of dark fruit along with cranberry-like acidity.

Cadence 2013 Ciel du Cheval Red Blend Red Mountain $45 92 points
Cabernet Franc (39%) takes the lead followed by Cabernet Sauvignon (38%), Petit Verdot (15%) and Merlot. Aromas of black currant, licorice, pencil lead and flowers are followed by ripe generous fruit flavors. The tannins are combed to a fine sheen.

Cadence 2013 Camerata Cara Mia Vineyard Red Blend Red Mountain $60 92 points
This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (20%) and Petit Verdot. Aromas of black fruit, spice and black licorice are followed by dark-fruit flavors that bring a dazzling sense of purity and restraint. The balance is impeccable.

Cadence 2014 Coda Red Blend Red Mountain $28 91 points
This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (38%), Cabernet Franc (33%), Merlot (20%) and Petit Verdot. Aromas of earth, herb, flowers and red and black fruit are followed by well-proportioned dark-fruit flavors that show a lot of structure. Cadence 2013 Taptiel Vineyard Red Blend Red Mountain $45 92 points
This wine is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (71%), with the rest Merlot (18%) and Cabernet Franc. Very pure aromas of black cherry and black currant are followed by cranberry and tart fruit flavors surrounded by a firm structure. It shows a lovely sense of restraint and balance, especially considering the warm region and vintage.

Castillo De Feliciana 2014 Brillánte Brut Méthode Traditionnelle Chardonnay Columbia Valley $30 87 points
Aromas of citrus rind, baking spice and baked bread fill the aromas. The palate is tart with lively fruit flavors.

Cayuse 2012 Wallah Wallah Special #4 Syrah Walla Walla Valley $165 94 points
A unique blend of several of the winery’s vineyards, this wine brings brooding notes of smoked ham, raw meat, lilac, fire pit and peat, with a thread of minerality that runs throughout. The flavors are full but deft, showing abundant smoked meat and savory notes along with a finish that seems near endless. The balance is perfectly spot-on.

Cayuse 2013 Wallah Wallah Special #5 Syrah Walla Walla Valley $175 93 points
This is a funky briny wine that still seems a bit closed up on first pour. The palate is silky and focused, not having fully come together as of yet but still offering generous fruit, smoked meat and other savory flavors. It’s all about elegance.

Cayuse 2013 Impulsivo En Chamberlain Vineyard Tempranillo Walla Walla Valley $90 93 points
This offers brooding, quite locked-up aromas of pencil eraser, cherry, herbs, funk and moist earth. The palate is seamless with inky dark fruit and savory flavors, showing a compelling sense of balance.

Cayuse 2014 Edith Rosé Armada Vineyard Grenache Walla Walla Valley $NA 91 points
A very pretty pale-copper color with a tinge of pink, this wine offers delicate, nuanced aromas of orange peel and mineral. The palate has a lightly creamy feel, showing a lot of freshness and tension.

Cayuse 2013 Flying Pig Red Blend Walla Walla Valley $90 93 points
This wine is a blend of Cabernet Franc (45%), Merlot (45%) and Cabernet Sauvignon. The aromas—both perfumed and subtle—pop with notes of flowers, cassis bud, moist earth, funk, orange peel and red fruit. The flavors are concentrated and velvety, displaying a soft, compelling feel.

Cayuse 2013 En Cerise Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley $80 94 points
The aromas pop with notes of funk, smoked meat, red fruit, flowers, stems and orange peel. It’s compact out of the gate with concentrated, tightly wound, salty flavors of olive brine, crushed rock and violets. It shows an exquisite sense of balance and a crazy long finish.

Cayuse 2013 Bionic Frog Syrah Walla Walla Valley $105 95 points
Out of the gate this wine reveals quite savory aromas of stems, fire pit, soot, black olive and light flowers. The flavors are intense and tightly wound, showing a lot of structure along with elegance. It’s a flat out stunner, showing grace and power as well as a hyper-extended finish.

Cayuse 2013 The Lovers Red Blend Walla Walla Valley $95 93 points
Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (87%) with the rest Syrah, this wine offers aromas of fresh tobacco, cherry, cassis bud and smoke. The palate is broad and flavorful, showing a bit more fruit than is often seen from this typically mineral-driven region.

Cayuse 2013 Camespelo Red Blend Walla Walla Valley $80 93 points
Cabernet Sauvignon (81%) takes the lead on this wine with the rest Merlot. Intriguing aromas of dried herb, moist earth, funk and blackberry reveal a palate full of concentrated fruit and savory flavors. It shows a sense of freshness and finesse.

Cayuse 2013 The Widowmaker En Chamberlain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley $90 92 points
Expressive aromas of funk, ember, moist soil, truffle, olive and high-toned dried herbs are followed by a freshly elegant and flavor-focused palate. The balance and length are exquisite.

Cayuse 2013 Cailloux Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley $80 95 points
The aromas are perfumed and expressive, with notes of crushed flowers, brown stems, black olive, sea salt, smoked meat and funk. The flavors are dense and intense, but still with a silky feel. It’s a classic example of this producer, with a finish that just won’t quit. Editor’s Choice

Cayuse 2014 Cailloux Vineyard Viognier Walla Walla Valley $NA 91 points
This is an aromatic wine, with vibrant yet still subtle notes of flowers, peach, citrus, lemon curd and wet stone. The fruit and savory flavors dance lightly on the palate, showing a lovely sense of finesse and grace. The balance is impeccable.

Cayuse 2013 God Only Knows Armada Vineyard Grenache Walla Walla Valley $95 93 points
This wine is perfumed with notes of potpourri, red fruit, funk, crushed gravel, ash, olive, orange peel and peat. The palate explodes with fruit and savory flavors that bring a sense of depth but also a sense of elegance and weightlessness. A hyper-extended savory finish kicks it up a notch.

Cayuse 2013 En Chamberlain Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley $80 94 points
Aromas of ground violets, charcoal, smoke, iron, black fruit, tar and salami lead a salty, briny, expressive palate that shows depth concentration and elegance. A long finish caps it off.

Cayuse 2013 Armada Vineyard Syrah Walla Walla Valley $95 94 points
The lilac, charcuterie, peat, smoke and black and green-olive aromas are tightly wound. The palate is focused, flavorful and energetic, showing depth and intensity while remaining quite light on its feet.

Chateau Ste. Michelle 2015 Dry Riesling Columbia Valley $9 89 points
The aromas are vibrant, with notes of pear, honeysuckle and peach. The palate is full flavored, dry as promised, with a zing of tart acidity that stitches it all together. It’s an outstanding value that shows a beautiful sense of balance.  Best Buy
